<p>Many people love to use
to-do lists. There is something very satisfying about checking or crossing off
an item when completed. It can also be used as a reference when a boss wants to
know employees’ progress. However, are you doing the right tasks to satisfy
your longer-term goals?</p>



<p>If you are someone who
creates a to-do list without considering your long-term goals, you may start
feeling as though you are spinning your wheels. You will be going through the
motions of “doing something” which will make the process of not getting
anywhere that much more frustrating.</p>



<p>To-do lists are a good idea
but, you need to make sure they are in-line with your goals. Consider taking a
top-down approach to your tasks rather than bottom-up. Start with your
long-term goals. Where do you see yourself in a few years from now? If you cannot
answer that question, you need to do some soul-searching. Take the time to figure
out what you want to accomplish at a high-level. Then, you can use that to
break down into granular tasks. Finally, you use the mid-level tasks to help
define the to-do list that you use daily.</p>



<p>People put off setting
long-term goals because the time frame seems so far in the future. How can you
be expected to know what is going to happen five to ten years from now? Try to
choose the shorter-term time frames. You can measure what happens two weeks
from now as it is going to happen soon.</p>



<p>Another problem with
longer-term goals is one of commitment. People seem to think that when they
declare a long-term goal, it becomes chiseled
in stone, and they are required to commit
to it. Hey, this is your list. Circumstances change, and It is ok to adjust your goals. </p>



<p>Once you have set your goals
and have broken them down into sub-tasks, creating your to-do lists will follow
easily, and they will get you closer to accomplishing
your goals.</p>

<p>Are you afraid to make
mistakes? If so, it could be holding you back in your success. </p>



<p>When you make mistakes, you
learn from them. That is what makes them
so valuable. Of course, if you do not learn from them, you will be doomed to
making the same mistakes repeatedly. </p>



<p>If you try too hard to avoid
mistakes, you will probably end up making more of them. That is because no one is perfect. You simply cannot avoid mistakes
and you should not. </p>



<p>Sometimes, the mistakes that
you make will make people angry with you. If your actions did affect them, do
what you can to rectify the situation. A simple apology may be all that is
needed.</p>



<p>Just as you would like
others to forgive you when you make mistakes, be forgiving of others when they
make mistakes, and it affects you. Open
your heart and let them make amends.</p>



<p>Once you give in to making
mistakes, you will find it to be a freeing experience. You will no longer need
to put so much pressure on yourself to avoid them. </p>



<p>Another aspect to consider
is that mistakes can lead to positive unintended results. Just look at sticky
notes by 3M. The researchers at the company set out to create a strong adhesive
that resulted in a weak one. Someone at the company took the idea and used it
to create the sticky notes product. There have been many instances of mistakes
that lead to alternative solutions. These would not have happened if they were
trying to avoid the mistakes.</p>



<p>Allow yourself to
make mistakes which will help you to trust yourself.</p>

<p>You
will hear people refer to routine as being dull or boring. It implies that life
is the same from one day to the next. However, routines are a great way to get
your work done. It is also a great means for teams to work together towards a
common goal. When everyone understands what needs to get done, i.e., what
routines each team member needs to perform, projects tend to run smoother.</p>



<p>We
also have routines in our society. In some ways, laws can be considered
routines. You know that you are not supposed to run a red light and that can be
thought of as a routine. When you come to
a red light, you stop. </p>



<p>You
set up routines for your kids in the form of chores. You know that certain
tasks need to get done each week. Many parents tie kids’ allowances on these
chores. When the kids finish their chores, they receive their allowances. </p>



<p>When
you pay bills, you tend to have a routine for this. Some people like to:</p>



<ul class="wp-block-list"><li>Pay bill upon receipt</li><li>Pay on a certain day
of month</li><li>Pay automatically by
their bank or brokerage. </li></ul>



<p>There is only one right answer for how to do this.
Whatever works for you. However, the method you choose will be routine.</p>



<p>Compare
this to people who do not have routines to manage
their lives. They tend to handle tasks when the mood strikes them. These people
are usually late with their bills and have messy environments. Some of these
people will say that this way of life works for them. However, for most people
this is chaos. It is something that can easily be avoided by setting up
routines for the tasks you need to complete. </p>



<p>Remember
we all need to break up our routines on occasion. You may use weekends to do
activities that you don’t get to do during the work week. Also, many families
use vacations to help break up their routines.</p>

<p>Do you really think that an amazing life just happens by chance? You will find it<strong><em> </em></strong>is necessary to devote your time, energy, and focus in an intentional manner<strong><em>.</em></strong> Distractions, less important goals, and a shortage of resources can interfere in your achieving and living an amazing life. The lack of a clear objective is the greatest obstacle. However, these challenges can be solved with a little effort.<br></p>



<p><strong>Create an amazing life that’s meaningful and exciting to you:</strong><br></p>



<p><strong>1. Remove what is not necessary.</strong> You must g<em>et rid of anything that takes up time or space and does not provide a worthwhile result.</em> If it is not important to you, do not include it in your life.<br></p>



<p><strong>2. Decide on your priorities.</strong> You might not be able to do or be the best of everything. However, you can accomplish some very amazing things over the course of a lifetime. </p>



<ul class="wp-block-list"><li>Narrow your focus to a few priorities. What is the most important thing you want to accomplish or experience? Keep your list short.</li></ul>



<p><strong>3. Stock up on the necessities.</strong> Courage is a necessity! The higher the risk, the more courage is required. Of course, if you had plenty of money, time, energy, and support, you would require less courage to seek after that amazing life. So, start building reserves in the key areas of your life.</p>



<p><strong>4. Remove the distractions from your life.</strong> Is it the television, the casual friend, or the goals that only passably interest you?</p>



<ul class="wp-block-list"><li>Warren Buffett often advises people to make a list of their top 10 priorities in order of importance. Next, he tells you to avoid numbers 4-10 like the plague. Those are the things that get in the way of accomplishing the top 3.</li></ul>



<p><strong>5. Deal with negative thoughts.</strong> Failing to deal with negative thoughts can cause major challenges down the road. Be committed to expecting the best, finding solutions, and staying positive. <em>Negativity fuels procrastination and deflates your desire to press on.</em><br></p>



<p><strong>6. Spend your time wisely.</strong> Avoid taking the easy path which is most likely the long way. Choose the shortest path to your amazing life. It may not be the most comfortable path, but you can handle it.<br><br></p>



<p><strong>7. Get started.</strong> The first step is often the hardest. Avoid waiting for some future event to occur. You can do it today! Even if you have kids, a limited income, or limited knowledge, just be determined to get started.<br><br></p>



<p><strong>8. It is not that difficult.</strong> There is not as much competition than you might think. Consider how much time the average person wastes at work and at home. The reason is that most people fail to prioritize their time. They do not set goals. They allow too many distractions.<br></p>



<ul class="wp-block-list"><li>The path is not nearly as difficult when you choose the direction of your life and eliminate distractions.</li></ul>



<p>Is your life less than amazing? It doesn’t have to stay that way. <strong><em>Setting priorities and removing distractions are the keys to creating an amazing life.</em></strong> It is not too late! There is still time to live the life you have always dreamed of. However, it is important to get started today.</p>

<p>Do you ever feel like you are just going through the motions? You get up, go to work, come home, have dinner, watch television, and go to bed. The next day, the same old routine starts all over again.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Living consciously involves taking back control over your life. Rather than doing something robotically and with no real thought, you will consider what you want to do and how you want to go about it.</p>



<p>Living consciously means you see the people you wish to see and take part in the activities you chose. When you live consciously, you think about what you want to eat and how you want to spend your free time. <strong><em>You discover true freedom of choice.</em></strong></p>



<p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>Living Consciously in Everyday Life</strong></p>



<p>Living consciously ensures you will have a more fulfilling life. You are in the driver’s seat. Yes, you still must get up in the morning, go to work, return home, and eat, but now you give yourself more possibilities to choose from in how you go about it. <strong>&nbsp;</strong></p>



<p>When you live consciously, you can vary your daily routines or add something that makes them a little more interesting:</p>



<ul class="wp-block-list"><li>Get up 15 minutes earlier a few times a week to do that exercise DVD you have been wanting to get to.<br>
</li><li>Instead of eating cold cereal every day, mix up your routine by having a piece of fresh fruit and some hot oatmeal or anything else you might want.</li></ul>



<ul class="wp-block-list"><li>Energize your evenings by taking a walk after dinner, having a rousing discussion with your partner about something funny from the day, or playing with your kids or pets.</li></ul>



<p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>Work</strong></p>



<p>At work, talk to the boss about that project you have really wanted to do. You will stimulate your interests and experience the satisfaction that comes with deliberately working on projects you desire to do.</p>



<p>As you do your routine tasks, focus on what you are doing. Are you doing your best? Have you considered more effective, timesaving methods for the tasks or projects at your job? The more you concentrate on what you are doing, the more you can endeavor to excel at the job.</p>

<p>In the evening at home, think about what you truly want to do. Maybe you want to hang out with the guys in your neighbor’s garage for an hour. Or do you have a hobby you enjoy that you have not been able to spend any time on?</p>



<p>Thinking consciously allows you to discover that you have the control in your life to do whatever it is that brings you joy, pleasure, and contentment.</p>

Doodle, journal, color, join a choir, scrapbook. Doing anything creative is a great way to learn about yourself, develop skills, keep your mind active and enjoy yourself. It is very satisfying to use your creative talent. You can share in your joy by giving gifts to your friends and family. 

Make a “to learn” list:
Just like a to do list, a "to learn" list helps you remember things that came up in a conversation or something you saw on TV or in a movie that you want to know more about. This is a handy tool to reference to fuel our curiosity. As you learn a new skill or topic you can keep a log which will help you feel even more accomplished. 

Make new friends:
It’s fun and educational to meet new people, especially when you have things in common to discuss. Find groups or individuals who, like you, enjoy learning. Social interaction can be an additional benefit as a result of pursuing lifelong learning.

Keep a notebook handy:
When you keep a notebook with you at all times, you can easily jot down things that you want to add to your “to learn” list. You can also record a book that someone recommends. As you learn new things you can also log your epiphanies which you can then reference from time to time. Of course you can also use your smart phone to keep track of these things with apps such as Notepad, Evernote or OneNote. 

Always have a book:
Keep a good book in your purse or car so you always have something to do (and learn) when you have unexpected downtime. This is even easier now as you can read on your phone, tablet or Kindle. This allows you to have thousands of books immediately available. I love the new Kindle Paperwhite which is water proof and also supports audible that you can listen to with bluetooth headphones.

Prove yourself wrong: Challenge yourself to take up a task you have always thought you could not accomplish or is outside of your comfort zone. Whether it’s oil painting or building an invention you’ve thought of, if you attack the task with enthusiasm and a learner’s mindset, you will be amazed how much you can accomplish! Lifelong learning is a journey which can be enjoyed by everyone.<br />

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><![CDATA[Wouldn’t it be great if you had a written plan for everything you want to accomplish in life? A Personal Development Plan is just that—<strong]]&gt;<em>it’s a blueprint for your life based on what’s important to you. </em> A well-written Personal Development Plan typically reflects your sense of personal awareness regarding what you want to do with your life. This includes education, relationships, health, career, and spirituality. <strong><em>Having a Personal Development Plan demonstrates you’re conscious of your wants, needs, and values and that you’ve thought about how you hope your life will progress. </em></strong> An important aspect of a Personal Development Plan is formulating goals for the future that you plan and want to achieve. For a perspective on a Personal Development Plan, think about how your boss evaluates you at work. Your evaluations of your work by your supervisor include goals, tasks, project outcomes, and skills your supervisor is guiding you to develop and achieve over the next year. A Personal Development Plan is similar—<strong><em>it’s just developed by you for you</em></strong> and encompasses all aspects of your life—education, relationships, career, health, spirituality and any other areas you’d like to include. <strong>Time Frames for Your Personal Development Plan with Examples</strong> When you’re first designing a Personal Development Plan, it’s more realistic if you focus on the next year. Establish goals you want to accomplish over the following 12 months in each of the areas of your life you hope to achieve personal growth. <strong>Take a look at this short example of some points that could be included in a one-year Personal Development Plan:</strong></p>
<ol>
<li><strong>Relationship goals. </strong>Get to know and establish two good friends. Work on accepting more dates or opportunities to spend time with friends when I’m invited to join.</li>
<li><strong>Education goals. </strong>Contact local colleges to take a look at the art courses and training programs they offer. Sign up and complete the Dale Carnegie course. You can also check out the courses offered by Udemy which are very reasonable and offer a side range of selections</li>
<li><strong>Career goals. </strong>Talk to the supervisor about the special project I would lien to initiate this year.</li>
</ol>
<p>Achieve at least three of the four goals my supervisor set for me (by year’s end). Request a meeting with the supervisor to discuss the job milestones I must achieve to receive a promotion. <strong><em>Keep in mind that the more specific you are when writing your plans, the more focused your actions can be in working toward accomplishing your goals.</em></strong> Next, ponder your five-year Personal Development Plan. <strong><em>What’s amazing about a five-year plan is that you can accomplish some pretty awesome and life-changing goals in that period of time.</em></strong> <strong>Examine these examples of goals that can be achieved over the course of a five-year Personal Development Plan:</strong></p>
<ol>
<li><strong>Relationship goals. </strong>Make an effort to develop a serious relationship by talking with my partner. Discuss my wants for the future. Read one book a year about how to have a healthy loving relationship.</li>
<li><strong>Education goals. </strong>Check with three online college programs to find the one most compatible with my financial and time requirements. Then, complete my last two years of college so that I can earn my bachelors’ degree.</li>
<li><strong>Career goals. </strong>Apply for up to three entry-level positions in accounting after completing my bachelors’ degree in accounting. Focus on finding work at a large corporation so more advancement opportunities will be available.</li>
<li><strong>Miscellaneous personal goals. </strong>Research three to five major cities where corporations I’d like to work are located. Narrow cities to two and visit each one to check out the city’s layout and neighborhoods. Determine which area to first apply for work.</li>
</ol>
<p>Perhaps it’s time to get your life together by designing a Personal Development Plan. <strong><em>In your plan, include elements related to relationships, education, health, career, and spirituality.  Include goals you wish to achieve in each area.</em></strong> Discover the incredible personal growth you can achieve all your life through developing a Personal Development Plan.&#8221;<br />
